Communist Rebels Attack Philippines Airport

About 30 communist guerrillas have attacked a Japanese-funded international airport being built in the central Philippines, destroying construction equipment with bombs and seizing guns from guards, police said. The New People's Army rebels did not harm any of the South Korean engineers and Filipino workers during Sunday's attack on the sprawling site at Silay City in Negros Occidental province, police officials said. But the attack could delay completion of the project for months. "This is an act of terrorism, an act of economic sabotage," Silay police chief Superintendent Celestino Guara said as he inspected the damage at the airport.
