Three Dead In Philippines Communist Ambush

Two police officers and their driver were killed during an ambush by communist guerillas on the Philippines island of Mindoro early on Friday, authorities said.
They were killed when their truck hit an improvised explosive device placed by rebels belonging to the New People's Army (NPA), in the village of Aninuan near the tourist resort of Puerto Galera. Three other policemen, including their commander Inspector Wilson Gani, were wounded in the attack. The policemen were attacked as they returned to camp after dropping off reinforcements at a telecommunications tower attacked by the NPA two days earlier. The 8,000-member NPA has been waging a 37-year Maoist armed campaign against the government.
